A drink-driver crashed and flipped his car onto its roof while more than four-and-a-half times the legal alcohol limit.
Christopher Lawrie called the police himself after the horror crash the Pitmedden to Udny Green road in Aberdeenshire around 3pm on March 4.
The 32-year-old escaped uninjured but the terrifying crash left his vehicle on its roof and debris strewn across the road.
Fiscal depute Darren Harty told Aberdeen Sheriff Court: “The accused called the police to report the incident.
“Officers carried out checks and noted the vehicle had no policy of insurance.
“Due to the accused’s demeanor, officers asked him to provide a specimen of breath, which tested positive for alcohol.”
An incredibly stupid thing to do
Lawrie, whose address was given in court papers as Albert Road, Oldmeldrum, pled guilty to driving with 101 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath.
The legal limit is 22 microgrammes.
And Lawrie also admitted driving without insurance.
Defence agent John McLeod said: “This was an incredibly stupid thing to do.
“He’s very fortunate nobody was injured.
“He managed to lose control of the car and roll it so it ended up on its roof.
Third offence of this kind
“He’s fortunate not to be injured and that nobody else was injured.
“He contacted the police himself and was immediately compliant with them.
“He offers no excuse for the driving.”
Sheriff Kevin Duffy said it was a “serious matter”, adding: “This is the third offence of this kind involving alcohol-related offending.”
He ordered Lawrie to be supervised for 18 months, and carry out 200 hours of unpaid work.
The sheriff also imposed a conduct requirement for Lawrie to engage with community substance misuse services, and banned him from driving for three years.
