A man has admitted running away from police and then assaulting an officer by kicking his shoe at him.
Ryan Ritchie appeared in the dock at Aberdeen Sheriff Court and pled guilty to charges.
The 28-year-old admitted assaulting the police officer in the unusual incident, which happened on Maberly Street in Aberdeen on May 28 last year.
The shoe struck the officer on the body.
And he also admitted a separate charge of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear or alarm at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary on Sunday April 4 this year.
Ritchie acted in an aggressive manner, shouted, swore and made offensive remarks towards police officers.
Fiscal depute Carol Gammie, telling the court about the first incident on Maberly Street, said: “It was 10am, police officers were speaking with the accused regarding an unrelated matter.
“The accused became agitated and refused to engage. He made off and a foot chase ensued.
“An officer contacted the control room and requested assistance.
“Other officers managed to stop the accused.
“He was being searched and throughout the search, he was attempting to push and pull his arms in a non-compliant manner and behaved in the manner libelled.”
Ms Gammie said, in relation to the other matter, that the incident had taken place inside a busy ward at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
The court heard Ritchie became “agitated” and “asked for his bag, which he was told he could not have”.
He then made a homophobic comment towards an officer.
Defence agent Caitlin Pirie told the court her client suffered from learning difficulties and had been involved in “substance abuse for a number of years”.
Sheriff Morag McLaughlin deferred sentence on Ritchie, whose address was given in court papers as Thistle Drive in Portlethen, in order for a background report to be prepared.
Ritchie is set to be sentenced next month.
