North-east man, 27, jailed after threatening to pour acid over partner

A jealous, paranoid boyfriend who sent his partner a string of vile letters from prison, warning “acid is a really nasty thing to get poured over you”, has been jailed.

Christopher Munro, known as Christie, was serving a sentence at HMP Grampian when he sent letters and made phone calls to his partner telling her “no other guys will want you when you’re all burned”.

The 27-year-old also threatened to kill her “stone dead” if she had been seeing anyone else while he was in prison.

At Aberdeen Sheriff Court, Christie was handed a 14-month sentence for the offence.

Depute fiscal Colin Neilson previously told the court: “The accused and complainer had been in an on-off relationship for a number of years. During the time of the libel the accused was serving a prison sentence with an earliest release date of May 10.”

Mr Neilson said Christie sent the woman letters, a card and made repeated phone calls containing threats between November 5-8 last year.

His threats included: “Whoever you’re with, I’ll find out.

“If I find out you’ve been sleeping with anyone while I’ve been in jail I’ll kill you stone dead.

“Leave me and you’ll be so sorry. If you’re not mine, no one else will have you, I’ll make sure of that, I promise.

“Acid is a really nasty thing to get poured over you and no other guys will want you when you’re all burned, will they?”

Mr Neilson added: “The complainer was scared of the accused as a result of these calls and letters.”

Christie, who is still a prisoner of HMP Grampian, pled guilty to engaging in a course of conduct which caused the woman fear or alarm.

Defence agent Graeme Murray previously said: “The content of these letters is horrific. Mr Christie accepts that.

“When I went through these letters with him he was absolutely horrified.”

He added his client has an “extreme form of ADHD” as well as “anger management problems” and he had struggled with medication he had been on in prison at the time.

Mr Murray said “his whole demeanour seems to have changed” since his medication was changed and added the couple could stay together despite the incident.

He said: “She has indicated she was looking for them to be back together at some point.”
