A man has been fined after punching a 16-year-old boy who gave him the finger.

Scott Gordon, 35, lashed out after being given the offensive gesture by the teenager who was with a group of friends at a bus stop on April 3.

Fiscal depute Rebecca Clark said: “For no apparent reason the complainer gave the accused the middle finger and the accused shouted ‘come on then fat boy’.

“The youths ran off when Gordon gave chase, but he later caught up with the group at Pitmedden, Tarves Road, and said “which one of you was it?” and “punched him to the right cheek”.

She added: “When he got home he told his mum and his mum contacted police.”

He was left with a “superficial head injury and a small laceration to the right cheek which required glue and steri strips to close”.

Gordon, of Keithleigh Gardens, Pitmedden, pled guilty to assault to injury.

Defence agent Liam Mcallister said the gang of teens had been trying to “goad” Gordon, and had previously thrown stones at his car.

Sheriff Robert McDonald told Gordon “you can’t take the law into your own hands” and fined him £400.
