An Aberdeen teenager who left a man requiring surgery and metal plates in his jaw after punching him in the street has been ordered to pay his victim £1,000.
Marcus McCluskie, 19, appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court for sentencing having previously pled guilty to assaulting the man by repeatedly punching him on the head to his severe injury.
The incident happened at around 6.30pm on April 29 on the city’s North Deeside Road at the junction with Station Brae when McCluskie intervened after the man, who was initially asking for directions, and his friends had become involved in a “quarrel”.
Defence agent John Hardie described it as an “unfortunate incident” and “unpleasant confrontation”, adding: “He doesn’t deny his involvement. He is a young man who overreacted.”
Sheriff Morag McLaughlin ordered McCluskie, of Crown Terrace, Aberdeen, to pay the man £1,000 in compensation and also told him to carry out 250 hours of unpaid work.
She said: “I hope this will be an eye-opener for you, and acts as a wake-up call.”
The court previously heard McCluskie punched the man twice with his right fist to his jaw.
As a result he sustained a fractured jaw and needed surgery.
