Police stopped a car on the street – and found the driver was uninsured as it was his stepdad’s vehicle.
David Allton, 30, was driving a Ford Mondeo on Countesswells Road in Cults at 12.30am on February 5 this year when patrolling officers pulled the vehicle over.
A police search discovered Allton was not insured to drive – and he had not asked his stepdad for permission to use the vehicle.
Allton appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court and admitted taking the vehicle without the owner’s consent and driving without insurance.
The court heard Allton, whose address was given as King Street, Aberdeen, decided to drive the car “out of convenience” as it was blocking his own car at his home address.
Sheriff Sukhwinder Gill ordered him to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work and added six points to his licence.
