Fiscal depute Karen Dow told Aberdeen Sheriff Court police found the vehicle at 6.20am on November 16 having crashed into a road sign on the pavement on the city’s Great Northern Road.
Defence agent Tony Burgess said: “The day before, at about 8pm, he had stopped consuming alcohol.
“He woke early the next day and hadn’t realised the effects of alcohol were still within him.”
Sheriff Ian Wallace fined Smith, of Kinmundy Drive, Westhill, £500 and banned him from driving for a year.
