A man has admitted leaving his partner scarred after hitting her over the head with a mug.

Dean Brady, 24, appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court over the matter.

Fiscal depute Alison Reid said the victim in the case was in a relationship with Brady at the time and had been for around two years.

She said the woman had been at home at 9am on July 30 when Brady arrived “unannounced” and an argument ensued when he accused her of “speaking to other men”.

When she walked into the kitchen she “felt something hit her head, the impact of which made her fall to the floor”.

Ms Reid added: “She saw a mug had smashed on the floor.

“The complainer realised she was bleeding from the head, phoned her mother and then an ambulance.

“The accused pressed a towel on her head and told her ‘it’s only a scratch, you’ll be fine’.”

She was taken to hospital and was found to have a 6.5cm wound to the top of her head which was closed using seven staples.

Ms Reid said the woman had indicated she had been left with a scar meaning she couldn’t wear her hair down without it being visible, and that part of her hair was not growing back.

Brady, a prisoner of HMP Grampian, pled guilty to assaulting his partner to her severe injury and permanent disfigurement.

Defence agent Paul Barnett asked for reports to be prepared. Sheriff William Summers agreed and deferred sentence until December 5.
