A man has been jailed after swiping a tip jar at an Aberdeen city centre hotel.
Darren Nelson, 41, leaned over a bar and grabbed the jar, which contained £30, at the Ibis Hotel on Shiprow on October 5.
Depute fiscal Lynzi Souter, at Aberdeen Sheriff Court, said: “At 6.30pm the accused, along with another male, entered the locus.
“The other male had gone to the reception and asked if there were any rooms available. It was at this time the accused went over to the bar area, leaned over the counter and picked up a glass jar containing the money.”
Nelson was later traced by police but the money was not recovered.
He pled guilty to stealing a quantity of cash.
Defence agent Laura Gracie said her client had been drinking heavily at the time, adding: “He fully accepts that he did take it with a view to purchasing more alcohol.”
Sheriff Ian Wallace jailed Nelson, of no fixed abode, for five months.
