A man has appeared in court after being caught by police with a three-inch sgian-dubh in his car.
Hardik Shukla told police he thought the item was a letter opener.
The 34-year-old appeared in the dock yesterday and pled guilty to possession of a knife on Rosemount Viaduct in Aberdeen on July 10.
Fiscal depute Lynzi Souter told Aberdeen Sheriff Court police officers stopped a vehicle containing a number of people at around 9.25pm for a “routine document check”.
Shukla was found to be the driver of the vehicle, which contained three people.
The court heard the vehicle was searched, with officers finding the sgian-dubh.

Ms Souter added: “During the search they found a three-inch sgian-dubh in a white carrier bag.”
She said Shukla indicated the knife belonged to him and took full responsibility for it.
When cautioned by the police he replied: “I thought it was a letter opener.”
Defence agent Jennifer Pritchard entered the guilty plea on behalf of her client, but asked for sentence to be deferred for reports and reserved mitigation for the next calling of the case.
Sheriff Ian Wallace called for a criminal justice social work report to be prepared and deferred sentence on Shukla, whose address was given in court papers as Oldmeldrum, until next month.
