A husband’s wedding anniversary weekend away with his wife turned from romantic to horrific when he was arrested for screaming that she was a “whore”.

Dragan Danilov had arranged a two-night break at Aberdeen’s Ardoe House Hotel as a surprise for his wife on their second anniversary.

But an argument broke out between the pair and Danilov ended up spending a night in the cells instead, Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard.

The 32-year-old, originally from Macedonia but now living in Montrose, was overheard calling his wife a “slut” and a “whore”.

Shouting heard in the hotel

Fiscal depute Rebecca Thompson said: “At around 11pm they were in their room when he started an argument with her.

“He accused her of sending inappropriate messages to other men. He was shouting and swearing at her, calling her a slut and a whore, which caused her to become upset and scared.”

The argument was overheard by another couple as they walked along the corridor at the South Deeside Road luxury hotel some 30 minutes later.

They told the hotel reception they could hear an “aggressive man shouting and a female crying”.

From anniversary to arrest

When police attended and found Mrs Danilov “visibly upset”, they cautioned, arrested and charged her husband then took him to Kittybewster custody suite.

Danilov, who works for a joinery firm, admitted behaving in a threatening and abusive manner by shouting and uttering derogatory remarks to his wife on October 17 last year.

His defence agent Sarah Russo said Danilov’s emotions were “running high” on the night in question.

“The couple had been celebrating their second wedding anniversary and this had been a surprise arranged by Mr Danilov,” she said.

“Both parties had consumed far more alcohol than they could normally consume.

“When they returned to their room an argument took place with regards to some messages Mr Danilov found on his wife’s phone to another gentleman.”

“This led to his emotions running high. He was upset, she was upset, and he made derogatory remarks,” Ms Russo added.

“He wishes to apologise publicly to other members of the public that were in the hotel.

“They are still living together and are getting on well. It would appear this incident has been extremely out of character.”

Sheriff Graham Buchanan fined Danilov, of Western Road North, Montrose, £245.
