An unemployed Inverness man drove his car after drinking at a funeral and collided with another vehicle and a fence, the city’s sheriff court was told today.
But Bernard Carroll of Flat 3, 2 Moray Place, Haugh Road, Inverness, decided to leave his car where it was and didn’t report the collision.
However Inverness Sheriff Court heard yesterday that police caught up with the 48-year-old as he walked along Military Road in Ardersier on October 25 this year.
Fiscal depute Kelly Mitchell told Sheriff David Sutherland: “He refused to tell police who the driver of his car was, and then refused to give a roadside breath specimen.”
Defence lawyer Neil Wilson said: “He had been at a funeral and had been drinking. He left it for three or four hours before getting into his car, thinking he was sober, but clearly he was not.”
Carroll admitted failing to provide details of the driver of the car; failing to report an accident and failing to give breath specimens.
He was fined a total of £900 and banned from driving for 18 months. But given his limited income, Sheriff Sutherland imposed 100 hours of unpaid work as an alternative.
