A welder has been hit with a £1,000 fine after assaulting a bouncer who turfed him out of an Aberdeen bar, in an incident branded deplorable.
Father-of-two Michael Brown punched a doorman at Siberia Bar and Hotel on Belmont Street, Aberdeen, when he attempted to get back into the nightspot after being flung out.
Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard the 40-year-old then assaulted a police officer when he refused to leave the area.
Brown, a welder, claimed that he only tried to get back into Siberia Bar because he was stranded in Aberdeen and wanted to pick up his friend’s house keys.
He pleaded guilty to two charges of assault, on a bouncer and a police officer.
Accused punched bouncer when denied reentry
Fiscal depute Ellen Barr told the court that Brown had been consuming alcohol at various pubs around Aberdeen prior to the incident.
She said: “At about 9.30pm he was asked to leave the locus by a door steward and did so.
“However, a few minutes later he returned and was told that he wasn’t allowed back into the pub.
“He then punched the door steward once to the jaw.”
Ms Barr also told the court that when police attended Brown repeatedly grabbed an officer by the body armour and shoved him.
Solicitor says accused is ‘apologetic’
Defence agent Neil McRobert said Brown’s plan that night had been to stay in Aberdeen with a friend, which became problematic when he was asked to leave Siberia bar.
He said: “Mr Brown’s recollection of events is extremely limited due to the alcohol consumption.
“He had returned because his friend was still within the pub and he needed the housekeys to that address.
“Mr Brown accepts his conduct and is apologetic about it.”
Sheriff Christian Marney condemned Brown’s behaviour, stating: “This court deplores that kind of conduct and you must understand that.
“Your previous offending is quite historic but you’re in danger of creating a new record.”
Sheriff Marney fined Brown, of Dee Street, Kincardine O’Neill, Aberdeenshire, a total of £1,040.
