A woman who repeatedly kicked a police officer in the groin after being thrown out of a nightclub has been given an opportunity to behave.
Monique Thompson, 35, became aggressive with police on the street after she was ejected from the Cotton Club and Bardot’s nightclub in Aberdeen due to excessive drunkenness.
As police attempted to arrest her she flailed her arms and kicked one officer in the chest before landing a kick to another officer’s groin.
Thompson’s behaviour was so violent that officers were forced to put her in leg restraints.
Her solicitor told the court she had acted “out of character” due to mixing alcohol and prescription medication.
Thomson pleaded guilty at Aberdeen Sheriff Court to three charges of assault on three separate police officers.
She kicked out at the constables
Fiscal deputed Sean Ambrose that at around 2.55am on January 18 2020 police were made aware of Thompson by security staff at the Cotton Club and Bardot’s who had removed her from the nightclub.
He said that as officers attempted to speak to Thompson she began to shout and swear at them while flailing her arms aggressively.
As one officer attempted to put his handcuffs on her she tensed her arms and kicked him to the right leg before turning and kicking another officer to his chest.
“They then made her aware she was under arrest regarding a police assault, however, she kicked out again at the constables,” Mr Ambrose added.
“The accused was placed to the ground and handcuffs were applied and as they attempted to put her in a police van she blocked the cell door from closing.
“As an officer attempted to rectify this, the accused kicked him to the groin with both legs numerous times.
“She was thereafter removed from the police van and placed in leg restraints.”
Clubber had mixed meds and alcohol
Defence agent Paul Barnett told the court that Thompson suffers from fibromyalgia and had been using “various medications” on the night in question.
He described his client’s decision to consume alcohol in the way she was along with her medication as “not a very good idea”.
He added: “In this state, she was heavily intoxicated and wasn’t aware of her actions.
“However, she is very remorseful and this was out of character for her.”
Sheriff Lesley Johnston said she noted that Thompson’s behaviour was a result of “being intoxicated and her health condition”.
However, she added: “The police are just doing their job and they do not deserve to be kicked at and assaulted in the course of their duties.”
Sheriff Johnston gave Thompson, of Brebner Terrace, Aberdeen, six months to show she could be of good behaviour.
