A drink-driving care home worker was almost three times the limit when she let her car roll into an Aberdeen taxi before fleeing the scene.
Marlena Rusztyk was seen swerving onto the wrong side of the road in Aberdeen before letting the car roll backwards into a taxi and fleeing the scene of the accident.
As well as being almost three times the drink-drive limit the 31-year-old also had no valid licence and no insurance, Aberdeen Sheriff Court was told.
She drove the grey Vauxhall around Charleston Road North, South College Street before being pulled over and breathalysed on Ashgrove Road West on February 4 this year.
Was almost three times the limit
Rusztyk gave a reading of 60mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath, the legal limit being 22.
Rusztyk admitted careless driving, being over the drink-drive limit, driving without insurance, leaving the scene of an accident and driving without the correct class of licence.
Defence agent Charlie Benzies said this was a “one-off” offence and that the loss of his client’s licence would affect her care home employment.
He said she wished to apologise sincerely to the taxi driver whom she hit.
“She seems to have panicked in this situation and she admits she was stupid to take and drive the vehicle,” Mr Benzies said.
“It’s not her car so the owner had to pay £600 to get the car back, which obviously they’re not very happy about.
“My client had been extremely scared by her actions on that particular day.”
‘I hope this serves as a lesson’
Sheriff Lesley Johnston fined Rusztyk, of Ferrier Crescent, Aberdeen, £605 and banned her from the roads for 12 months.
“I hope this serves as a lesson to you,” the sheriff added.
Rusztyk was deemed also suitable to carry out a voluntary drink driving rehabilitation course should she wish to reduce that disqualification period.
