Drunk Westhill teen brandished hammer at former friend

A drunken teen punched and brandished a hammer at a former pal during a late-night row in Westhill.

Jay Jamieson, 19, approached the male as he was eating pizza outside shops on Old Skene Road.

Both men, who were just 17 at the time and both with groups of friends, became involved in an argument and Jamieson lashed out.

He first punched the boy before producing a hammer and brandishing it at him.

Fiscal depute Dylan Middleton told Aberdeen Sheriff Court the incident happened around midnight on Saturday March 20 last year.

He said: “The complainer and friends were at Westhill shops on Old Skene Road eating pizza.

‘There had been a recent falling out prior to this incident’

“Around 10 minutes later, they were approached by a group of males including the accused.

“Arguments ensued between the groups and between the accused and complainer.

“The accused swung a clenched right fist, hitting the complainer on the chin.”

Jamieson’s victim responded by “squaring up” to him.

Mr Middleton went on: “The accused reached to the rear of his waistband and pulled out a hammer.”

Jamieson walked towards his victim with the hammer above his head, at which point the complainer left.

‘He accepts he was extremely drunk’

The fiscal depute said: “The accused and complainer were previously friends and apparently there had been a recent falling out prior to this incident.”

Jamieson, of Mackie Place, Westhill, pled guilty to a charge of assault.

Defence agent Chris Maitland said the complainer and Jamieson’s friend had initially started arguing, but Jamieson “butted in” and became “frustrated”.

He said: “When the complainer squares back up to him he pulled the hammer out.

“He accepts he was extremely drunk, and everybody involved was extremely drunk.

“He is regretful and apologises for the way he behaved.”

Sheriff Lesley Johnston deferred sentence until next month for reports.
