An Aberdeen man who caused £2,000 worth of damage by smashing windows with a golf club says he’s prepared to “apologise to every person” impacted.

Keith Pirie, 22, smashed six windows on Jasmine Terrace in Aberdeen during a drunken early morning vandalism spree during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard that Pirie’s alcohol and drug use had increased during the pandemic as he was “going through difficult circumstances”.

His solicitor described Pirie as “extremely embarrassed” by his behaviour.

Police were called to Jasmine Terrace in the early hours of December 29 2020 after several reports by neighbours that their windows had been targeted.

Pirie was previously convicted of smashing a glass bottle over the head of a neighbour during the first Covid lockdown in August 2020.

He continued to attack the man with the broken end – causing lacerations to his head, neck and arm.

Police at the scene on Jasmine Terrace.

Fiscal depute Karen Dow told the court that Pirie smashed a number of windows at around 7.45am.

The total amount of damage to the six windows was estimated at around £2,000.

He pleaded guilty to six charges of recklessly damaging the property on December 29 2020.

Defence agent Lisa Reilly told the court that Pirie had been “going through difficult circumstances” but would like to apologise to each neighbour in person.

“The Covid lockdown led to him increasing his drug and alcohol use, but this isn’t an excuse for his behaviour.

“He knows that it was stupid, reckless and he is extremely embarrassed by his behaviour.”

Ms Reilly also stated that Pirie would be prepared “to apologies to every person who had their windows smashed”.

As an alternative to custody, Sheriff Christian Marney sentenced Pirie, of North Anderson Drive, Aberdeen, to a community payback order with 96 hours of unpaid work.
