A violent home invader impersonated a Just Eat delivery man in order to force his way into a house and rob the owner at knifepoint.
Steven Dunlop, 23, appeared in the dock at Aberdeen Sheriff Court and admitted pretending to be a courier for the food delivery firm before storming into the house.
The court heard that Dunlop was carrying a Just Eat delivery bag when he attacked the homeowner and demanded “give me everything you’ve got”.
He made off with £400 and a £300 necklace.
Robber help up bag and asked if takeaway had been ordered
Fiscal depute Christy Ward told the court that at around 6pm on October 14 last year Dunlop knocked on the door of the victim’s Bucksburn home and held up the delivery bag.
“He asked if they had ordered a takeaway and they advised they had not,” Ms Ward said.
“The accused then pushed his way past the female witness and grabbed the male complainer and pushed him onto the living room sofa.
“The accused then headbutted the complainer.”
Dunlop then ran into the kitchen and grabbed a knife which he brandished as he shouted “give me everything you’ve got!”
He then took a £300 chain belonging to the man, a jar full of £100 in coins and £300 in cash.
A struggle ensued between the homeowner and Dunlop that saw the knife embedded in a wall.
Both the man and his friend managed to eventually force Dunlop out of the house and call the police, at which point he ran off.
‘The seriousness of the offence is acknowledged by him’
He pleaded guilty to one charge of assault and robbery.
Defence agent John Hardie told the court that Dunlop had a “troubled background” but said he had “expressed genuine remorse”.
“It’s a serious matter and he is very much aware that this could lead to a custodial sentence.
“The seriousness of the offence is acknowledged by him.”
Sheriff Andrew Miller said: “This is an extremely serious offence.
“You took part in an assault against this man and then a knife was produced.
“I can only take a very serious view of this matter as your record is significant and includes a number a number of convictions for violence.”
Sheriff Miller sentenced Dunlop, whose address was given as HMP Grampian, to two years in prison.
