A pensioner has been charged in connection with an incident in which a dog fell from a car near Fochabers.
Vets and emergency services were called to the scene at the Spey Bay roundabout on the A96 Aberdeen to Inverness road earlier this month.
It is believed the dog somehow fell from the boot of the car and then became entangled in its lead.
The animal was taken to the nearby Fochabers Veterinary Centre, where it was pronounced dead.
A police investigation was launched into the incident, which happened at around 2.40pm on Friday April 1, and now a man has been charged.
Constable Thomas Spracklen said: “We can confirm that a 78-year-old man has been charged in connection with the death of a dog, following an incident involving a car on the B9104, at the A96, in Fochabers.
“He has been reported to the Procurator Fiscal.”
Fochabers Lhanbryde councillor Marc Macrae said at the time: “To say I was shocked when I heard about the incident last Friday would be an understatement, having two dogs in my own household I was horrified to learn that the poor dog had died from its injuries.
“It would be wrong to speculate further at this time whilst the police carry out their investigations into what I would hope was the result of a very tragic accident.”
