A new dad assaulted the mother of his five-day-old son during a nine-month campaign of domestic abuse.
Csaba Mihaly subjected his partner to a torrent of physical and verbal abuse on three occasions at their Ballater home.
The 29-year-old spat in her face, pushed her to the ground, grabbed her by the throat so she struggled to breathe, slapped her on the face and dragged her from a bed between June 2019 and March 2020.
The hotel worker even attacked his now ex-girlfriend just five days after she gave birth.
Worried he’d drop the baby
On that occasion, Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard his victim had shouted at him because she found him sleeping with the days-old baby in his arms and was worried he would drop it.
Fiscal depute Andrew McCann said: “The accused was asleep in the bedroom with the baby in his arms.
“The complainer came in to take the child from him as she observed the baby could have fallen.
“This resulted in an argument and he grabbed her by the neck with one hand and choked her. She found it hard to breathe.
“She deliberately fell to the floor to stop him.
“She left the room and when she re-entered he slapped her in the face before slamming the door.”
Spat on her and grabbed her
On another occasion he physically assaulted her by grabbing her by the arm and dragging her from a bed and in a separate incident, he spat on her face during an argument.
The pair were living together in Ballater at the time, in accommodation connected with Mihaly’s work at the Hilton-owned Craigendarroch Hotel and the Balmoral Bar.
Mihaly, of Queens Road, Ballater, admitted a charge of domestic abuse.
Defence agent Stuart Murray said his client “has some difficulty dealing with his emotions”.
‘Toxic relationship’
He added: “He fully accepts everything that he pleaded guilty to. He doesn’t wish to put the blame for any of his actions on the complainer’s behaviour.
“What he did try to express to the author or the social work report was that the relationship was fairly toxic and abusive by both parties.”
The court heard that the pair have now split up though Mihaly continues to financially support his young son.
Sheriff Morag McLaughlin fined him £420 and handed him 18 months of supervision. A non-harassment order was also put in place for the same period of time.
