An Elgin man has been placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely and jailed after being convicted of the terrifying rape of a teenager.
Luke Clarkson only stopped the attack when the 18-year-old woman grabbed him by the throat.
Clarkson, formerly of Elgin, was asked to stop during the sexual assault but continued to force himself upon the woman until she took physical action.
A judge told Clarkson, 27, he had shown no remorse for his offending against the woman, who was aged 18 at the time of the offence.
Lord Boyd of Duncansby said he had a victim impact statement from the woman who suffered injury during the assault.
He added it was the psychological damage that was “most debilitating and long lasting”.
The judge said: “She had repeatedly asked you to stop.
“You only did so when she eventually grabbed you by the throat.”
Continues to maintain innocence
Clarkson had earlier denied raping the teenager at a flat in Dundee on January 19 in 2020 but was found guilty after a trial.
He was also convicted of engaging in abusive behaviour towards the woman over several months.
It culminated with the rape on January 19 2020.
He also pushed and grabbed her, hit her with an ornament and seized her by the throat.
Defence counsel Edith Forrest said Clarkson continued to maintain his innocence but was prepared to undertake whatever courses were available to him.
She said the former Mcdonald’s restaurant employee had suffered from “adverse childhood experiences”.
Ms Forrest said: “He appears as a true first offender.
“Until this offence, he had no contact with the police or the criminal justice system.”
She said that Clarkson had an interest in martial arts and for a time had employment in that field.
Clarkson was handed four years and nine months in prison and was told that he will be on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely following his sentencing.
