An abusive and wheelchair-bound drunk told carers he’d make their night a “living hell” before threatening to “ram” his electric wheelchair into their legs.
John Nicol was being helped by two members of staff at his temporary home in sheltered accommodation after they found him drunk and being sick,” Aberdeen Sheriff Court was told.
But in return for their care, the 70-year-old gave them a barrage of abuse.
Fiscal depute Andrew McMann said the offence took place in Nicol’s home at Kingswood Court sheltered housing complex in Aberdeen on September 1 last year.
Made wheelchair ram threat
“At around 8pm he entered and was found to have been sick,” he said.
“Two employees there were asked to clean him up but during this time he became verbally abusive towards both of them.
“He told them ‘I am going to make your f**king night a living hell’ and the two women then left the room.
“He was heard to shout ‘I am going to ram this electric wheelchair into your f**king legs’.
‘I am going to smash yous’
“Later, he was heard to shout ‘I will find yous’ and ‘I am going to smash yous’.
“He was not cautioned and charged at the time due to his level of intoxication.”
In his absence, defence agent Tony Burgess confirmed Nicol’s guilty plea to a charge of threatening or abusive behaviour.
Mr Burgess said his client was currently in long-term care in a hospital due to his alcohol issues but had been staying at the Kingswood due to being subject to a non-harassment order keeping him away from his wife.
Drinks ‘copious’ amounts
“He consumes copious amounts of alcohol but for him, that’s a normal day’s drinking,” he said.
“He now has support from alcohol services teams who he sees once a month and they have found him a house that will be specially adapted.
“He is trying to do something about his drinking.”
Sheriff Lesley Johnston handed Nicol, of Kingswood Court, Invercauld Road, Aberdeen, a £210 fine.
