A delivery driver who got behind the wheel of his car while under the influence of cocaine has been banned from the roads.
Szymon Gawarecki was stopped by patrolling officers when he was driving his red Ford along the B993 Elphinstone Road in Inverurie.
When pulled over at around 10.30pm on October 6 2021 officers carried out a saliva sample that detected cocaine in his system, Aberdeen Sheriff Court was told.
The 22-year-old gave a blood sample that showed he had 97 microgrammes of the cocaine metabolite benzoylecgonine per litre of blood. The legal limit is 50mg per litre.
Defence agent Neil McRobert said that Gawarecki was “occasionally” using cocaine last year.
“One or two days had passed before he had driven and he thought he was okay,” he said.
“He realises that he will be disqualified and his employment will be terminated.”
Gawarecki pleaded guilty to a charge of driving under the influence of drugs.
‘Could have been a really serious accident’
Sheriff Lesley Johnstone rapped Gawarecki stating he could have caused a “really serious accident”.
She said: “You were nearly double the limit, that could have been a really serious accident.
“It is often good fortune an accident doesn’t happen when drink or drug driving.”
Gawarecki of Byron Crescent, Aberdeen, was given a £520 fine and has been banned from driving for 12 months.
