Aberdeen biker drove at double the speed limit after sleeping in

Forbes Morrison appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court and pleaded guilty to one charge of dangerous driving.

An Aberdeen biker who was clocked doing double the speed limit claims he did it because he slept in and was going to be late for work.

Forbes Morrison, 52, was in a hurry to unlock the gates of the new £16 million Milltimber primary school building site when he was caught speeding on North Deeside Road.

He was clocked “stupidly” hitting 62mph while overtaking another vehicle in a 30mph zone on September 29 2021, Aberdeen Sheriff Court was told.

Fiscal depute Andrew McMann told the court: “Officers were carrying out static speed checks in an unmarked car, when the accused was seen overtaking another vehicle with 62mph.

“I was 6.25am. Traffic was light and conditions were clear and dry.”

‘It was just stupidity’

Morrison, who opted to represent himself in court, pleaded guilty to one charge of dangerous driving.

He added: “I had slept in and I was in charge of opening the site at Milltimber School for the other workers so I was in a hurry.

“I just basically came up round the bend and up the hill and it happened. It was just stupidity.”

Sheriff Graham Buchanan banned Morrison, of Deevale Road, Aberdeen, for one year.

He was also fined £640 and will have to sit an extended test before he can get back on his motorbike again.
