A man has admitted assaulting a reveller after a row outside a city centre takeaway.
Jarvis Mathieson exchanged words with his victim in Drummond Street, Inverness, before punching him twice to the head.
He admitted a single charge of assault to injury under provocation at Inverness Sheriff Court.
Fiscal depute Emily Hood told the court that the attack occurred at around 2.30am on February 23 2020.
She said: “The witness had been on a night out and got into an argument with the accused.
“The accused then punched the witness twice to the jaw knocking him to the ground.”
Man ran off after takeaway assault
The court heard that Mathieson ran away following the attack.
His victim was taken to Raigmore Hospital where he received treatment for a 4cm cut to his head.
Solicitor John MacColl, for Mathieson, said his client had been out with friends on the night in question and got into a disagreement with the other man.
He said: “He thereafter pushed Mr Mathieson. As a result of that Mr Mathieson then reacted by punching him twice.”
Fining Mathieson, of Dalcross, £520, Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood said: “That’s two convictions for assault Mr Mathieson. Another one and we will be looking at something other and a financial penalty as far as you are concerned.”
