A careless biker who was clocked doing over 100mph on a Highland road has lost his licence for four months.
Thomas Spencer, from Aberdeen, had just overtaken a bicycle when a speed camera clocked his Yamaha motorcycle travelling at 106mph.
Inverness Sheriff Court heard that the incident had been due to a lack of concentration coupled with the sheer power of his black Yamaha.
Spencer, 29, appeared before the court to admit a single charge of careless driving on July 23 2021.
Fiscal depute Karen Poke said it had been daylight with dry roads and a moderate amount of traffic when police carrying out speed checks on the A832 at Achanalt spotted the rider.
She said: “They observed a motorcycle travelling westbound passing their location. They used the laser device to check his speed, speed was recorded as 106mph.”
Lack of concentration led to 100mph+
Solicitor Gary Miller explained that the incident could be explained by two factors: “A lack of concentration and the power of these machines.”
“The vehicle he was travelling on was a motorcycle and an extremely powerful motorcycle,” Mr Miller explained, before adding: “He gave himself a fright.”
The court heard that Spencer, a ship manager whose job takes him to ports the length of the east coast of the UK, had taken “the responsible step” of putting his motorcycle up for sale.

“He now travels by car, he doesn’t use the bike,” Mr Miller said.
“This has been a monumental lesson for this young man.
“His standard of driving will be that of a careful and compliant driver from this day forward.”
Sheriff Eilidh MacDonald told Spencer, of Golden Square, Aberdeen, that his lack of concentration and poor understanding of his motorcycle’s power were a concern.
She disqualified him from driving for four months and handed down an £840 fine.
