Lisa Macleod-Reid admitted being unfit to drive at Inverness Sheriff Court after falling asleep at the wheel

A woman who was stopped by bystanders after swerving in the road on Boxing Day fell asleep at the wheel as she waited for police to arrive.

Lisa Macleod-Reid told witnesses she had taken her prescribed medication early when she was questioned on Telford Street over concerns about her driving.

Police were called, but by the time they arrived Macleod-Reid was sound asleep at the wheel.

Macleod-Reid pled guilty to a charge of driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs at Inverness Sheriff Court.

Fiscal depute Karen Poke told the court that the incident occurred at around 4.50pm on December 26 2021.

She said: “Witnesses were travelling along Kenneth Street when their attention was drawn to a car travelling in front of them which appeared to swerve in the road.

“Witnesses were concerned about the manner of driving and spoke to the accused.”

Ms Poke said that when asked if she was okay, the woman responded that she had “taken her medication early.”

Woman found ‘asleep at the wheel’

Police were called but when they attended they found the accused asleep at the wheel.

Ms Poke said that roadside testing was negative, but Macleod-Reid was taken to Burnett Road Police Station for an impairment test, which found her to be impaired.

Macleod-Reid’s solicitor Rory Gowans said his client had been prescribed medication for mental health issues and had been “getting used to it” at the time of the incident.

He said: “She apologises to all those concerned.”

Sheriff Eilidh MacDonald disqualified Macleod-Reid from driving for a year and issued her with a £300 fine.
