John Mackenzie, 33, of 5 Lyness House, Thurso committed the offence after being detained at Burnett Road Police Station on Saturday, December 20. Fiscal depute Fraser Matheson said that Mackenzie had come to the attention of officers on another matter and had been taken to the police station. However, when asked if he wanted a solicitor present, Mr Mackenzie “became uncooperative”. Mr Matheson added: “He spat through the hatch in the cell door at the police officer.” Defence agent Natalie Bruce said that Mackenzie had been in Inverness to celebrate his engagement. She said: “He became very upset because he didn’t know why he was in the police cells.”
