A school worker raped a terrified woman as she returned home from a night out.
Jeffery Oviasogie pounced on the 29-year-old stranger in Bon Accord Terrace Gardens in Aberdeen in the early hours of September 26 last year.
The 20-year-old then left his weeping victim curled up on the ground – but was soon recognised due to his distinctive baseball cap.
Oviasogie now faces a lengthy jail term after he today pled guilty to a rape charge at the High Court in Glasgow.
The hearing was told the sex attacker was a support worker at Camphill special needs school in Aberdeen at the time.
He had been living in the UK since 2018, but his visitor visa expired six months before this attack.
The Nigerian had submitted an “application for leave to remain” although it is not known how that progressed.
The victim had been on a night out with friends at two bars before going to the Underground nightclub in Aberdeen.
The group then left at 3am and went home separately.
‘She was screaming for help’
The woman was walking when Oviasogie suddenly came up and started talking to her.
He then tailed her as she continued into Bon Accord Terrace Gardens.
Prosecutor John McElroy said: “She began to feel uncomfortable.
“As she walked along a steep path, the woman was aware of Oviasogie behind her.
“Her next memory is of being on her back on a muddy area with him on top of her.
“She was screaming for help, but she was unable to move beneath his weight.
“Oviasogie told her to ‘shut up’.”
Mr McElroy said the school worker went on to rape the woman as he held her down.
The advocate depute: “She continued screaming and shouting. She was petrified.”
A man nearby heard the cries and then spotted Oviasogie, also of Aberdeen, on top of the woman.
As the rapist fled, it was clocked he was wearing a distinctive red baseball cap.
Mr McElroy: “The woman remained on the ground, crying and curled into a ball.”
Three students also passed and one alerted police to the hysterical victim.
Officers discovered Oviasogie in Aberdeen’s Justice Mill Lane around an hour later still wearing the cap.
His jeans and trainers were also mud-stained – but he denied being involved in the attack.
Edith Forrest, defending, said a psychologist has been identified to complete a report on Oviasogie pending sentencing.
Judge John McCormick remanded him in custody and adjourned the case until next month.
‘Dangerous predator’
Detective Chief Inspector Karen Main told the Press and Journal: “This was a horrendous attack on a young woman making her way home from a night out.
“Jeffery Oviasogie is a dangerous predator and I welcome the news that he has admitted his guilt.
The Det Ch Insp added: “A young woman is dealing with the trauma of what happened to her that night and I hope that knowing Oviasogie is no longer a threat to other women gives her some sort of solace as she moves forward with her life.
“In this instance, members of the public came to the woman’s aid and I would like to extend my personal thanks to them for their actions.
“A dedicated team of detectives worked on this inquiry and today that dedication paid off,” she said.
