A 22-year-old has had her car seized after she was found slumped inside it near an Aberdeen Greggs while almost six times the drink-drive limit.

A concerned employee at the Bridge of Don bakery called the police after seeing Skye Murray flopped over the wheel of the running vehicle in the car park.

She was discovered by officers with an empty bottle of wine in the footwell and smelling strongly of alcohol.

The quality control facilitator was breathalysed and had a reading that showed she was more than five times the legal limit.

Murray’s defence agent said she had no intention of driving due to the amount of alcohol consumed.

Driver had slurred speech and smelt of alcohol

Fiscal depute Kirsty Martin said the incident happened on the afternoon of November 25 last year.

She told Aberdeen Sheriff Court: “At 12.57pm police received a call from a staff member from Greggs at Jesmond Drive reporting an intoxicated female slumped at the wheel of a blue Vauxhall car. This was outside the premises in their car park.

“The engine was running and the keys were in the ignition.

“They managed to rouse the accused who was found to be drowsy, slurring speech and smelling strongly of alcohol.”

Murray admitted being in charge of a vehicle while unfit through drink and gave a reading of 129 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, the legal limit being 22 micrograms.

Would not have legally been able to drive until the next day

Defence agent Michael Horsman told the court Murray accepts she was “consuming alcohol to excess” at the time but is now in a far more “stable situation”.

He said: “She had parked the car and had consumed the alcohol when she was still in the car.

“In fairness to her, the summary of evidence makes reference to an empty bottle of wine being found in the car next to her.

“She wouldn’t have been below the limit until the following day. She told social workers she had no intention of driving the car.”

Sheriff William Summers told Murray: “There’s no alternative than to disqualify you from driving and fix you with a financial penalty.”

He handed Murray, of Summerfield Terrace, Aberdeen, a fine of £300, banned her from the road for 12 months and seized the car, worth £740.
