A furious young driver told a 13-year-old boy he’d kill him if he rode his bike in front of his car again.
Ben Firth hurled abuse and threats at the child in a playpark after he spotted him riding his bicycle on the pavement and between two cars in Ellon.
Firth’s wild over-reaction came about when their paths crossed again two days later.
“You jump in front of my car again,” he told the scared schoolboy, “and I’m going to batter you and I am going to kill you.”
The 19-year-old then pointed at the boy’s bike and said: “Next time that bike will be mine”.
Fiscal depute David Rogers told Aberdeen Sheriff Court the boy and his pals had been hanging out in the town’s Meiklemill Park when the threats were made.
“The comments were overheard by the boy’s friends,” he said. “The accused walked away but the complainer spoke of being alarmed and scared by the comments and he was left fearful.”
Firth admitted behaving in a threatening and abusive manner during the incident in Meiklemill Park on February 13, 2020.
He was not present in court, nor did he have a solicitor act for him. However, he entered his plea by letter alongside an offer to pay a financial penalty.
Sheriff Graham Buchanan fined Firth, of Snipe Street, Ellon, £320.
He added: “Since he has provided all the information the court requires in relation to his financial circumstances and he is still relatively young and his number of previous convictions … I will deal with this today by way of a fine.”
