A house party in the Outer Hebrides turned violent when one of the revellers was stabbed repeatedly.
The attacker, 27-year-old James Downie, has been warned by Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald that “all options are open to the court” and he could be facing jail.
Downie, of Carabhat, Carinish, North Uist, appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court and admitted assaulting the man in a house in Balivanich on Benbecula.
He stabbed him repeatedly on the head and body with a knife to his severe injury, permanent disfigurement and permanent impairment.
Fiscal depute David Morton said Downie and his victim both knew each other and had gone to a house party which continued into the early hours of June 6 2020.
“He (Downie) burst into the living room with a pen knife or a fishing knife and repeatedly struck (his victim).
“They both landed on the floor with Downie on top and were separated by others at the party.”
Downie’s victim was taken to hospital where he had five stitches inserted into a wound at his hairline and has been left with a permanent scar.
Mr Morton added that butterfly stitches also had to be applied to his abdomen and a finger on his left hand was badly injured, leaving it permanently impaired.
Sentence was deferred until July 15 for a background report and restriction of liberty order assessment.
Defence solicitor Patrick O’Dea reserved his comments until the report is available.
