A teenager dumped bags of drugs in a wheelie bin after an unsuccessful attempt to give police the slip.
Philip Sinclair was just 17 when he was found dealing ketamine in Froghall Terrace in Aberdeen.
He was with a group of friends in the early hours of the morning on June 9 2020 when they aroused the suspicion of police officers.
Fiscal depute Emma Petersen told Aberdeen Sheriff Court that Sinclair tried to bolt from officers but stopped briefly to dump a bag of “white powder” into a wheelie bin.
“One officer chased the accused along Froghall Terrace and during this time saw him stand next to a wheelie bin that was on the pavement outside Duke Street,” she said.
“They saw him remove a plastic bag from the pocket of his hooded jumper and take a blue bag and put it in the bin.
“He ran off in the opposite direction but was later caught and placed in handcuffs.”
A search of Philip found “multiple self-seal bags” of the class B drug ketamine, valued at around £260.
A further search of the Duke Street bin found more bags of the drug alongside a set of scales.
Philip, who is now 19, admitted being concerned in the supply of drugs when he appeared in court.
Sold drug to pals and associates
Defence agent Neil McRoberts said his client had experienced a difficult 2020 but now comes across as a more “mature adult”.
“He had a number of issues in his life, was not coping very well and turned to substance misuse,” he said.
“Initially he was just using, but he accepts he did then sell to friends and associates.”
The solicitor said Philips was in a better place now and hadn’t reoffended since, though he’s still serving unpaid work hours from an assault and weapon possession offence in 2019.
Sheriff Margaret Hodge fined Sinclair, of Grampian Court, Aberdeen, £320.
