A rejected ex-boyfriend hounded a woman with 200 calls and 80 texts then told her he’d show her “what a monster truly is” after their relationship ended.
Chay Cargill sent the unwanted messages and made numerous calls to the woman after their one-year relationship came to an end in June last year.
The 26-year-old pestered the woman with more than 200 calls and voicemails between July 1 and August 7, 2021, Elgin Sheriff Court heard.
Fiscal depute Naomi Duffy-Welsh said Cargill sent 80 texts from a withheld number in the space of 90 minutes.
“The accused would contact the complainer by mobile phone in attempts to rekindle the relationship,” she said.
“She received in excess of 200 voicemails and calls and essentially messages to her.”
‘You’ll understand what a monster is’
She said one of the messages read: “You want to meet a real monster? Someone who treats women like pieces of dirt and has been to jail for how he treats women?”
He said he would send one of his relatives her way, adding: “Then you’ll understand what a monster truly is.”
After receiving several voicemails from a number she recognised as his, the woman called the police and Cargill was cautioned and charged.
He admitted a charge under the Communications Act of persistently sending texts and making calls to try and contact the woman as well as sending one aggressive text message.
Representing himself in court, Cargill explained he was a chef and had only been trying to arrange contact with his ex’s child.
“When I was talking to her the second time I was not trying to rekindle the relationship,” he said. “It was to try and see the child that I had raised with her for a year, that’s all.
“We have had no further contact.”
Has six months to do work
Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood handed Cargill, of Morriston Road, Elgin, 67 hours of unpaid work as an alternative to a fine.
He also approved a two-year non-harassment order preventing him from contacting his victim.
