A pickpocket stole a pensioner’s bank card from his jacket while giving him a hug at an Aberdeen newsagent.
Hannah Foliant had met the 68-year-old man, an acquaintance, at McColl’s on Hayton Road when he agreed to lend her £40.
After the pensioner withdrew the money from an ATM and handed it over, Foliant, 30, gave him a hug before leaving.
It wasn’t until the next day that the man noticed his card was missing and police eventually found it in Foliant’s possession around two months later.
Fiscal depute Tom Procter told Aberdeen Sheriff Court: “The complainer and the accused are known to each other as acquaintances.
Sheriff ordered Foliant to be jailed
“On July 8 2020, the complainer had lent the accused money. He withdrew £40 and gave it to the accused.
“He then put his bank card in his jacket pocket.
“The accused then asked for a hug and left the complainer’s company.”
Mr Procter said the pensioner then noticed that the card had gone the following day.
On September 10 2020, police traced Foliant regarding an unrelated matter and found the bank card in her possession.
Foliant, of Beachview Court, Aberdeen, pled guilty to a charge of theft from a person.
Defence agent John McLeod said his client was remanded in custody over a separate matter.
Sheriff Eric Brown ordered Foliant to be jailed for three months.
