An American tourist is facing court over a crash which killed a toddler and his grandparents on the A9.
David McPherson, his wife Elza McPherson, of Inverness, and their grandson, aged just 2, were killed after their Ford Fiesta was involved in a collision on the A9 Inverness to Perth road, near the Slochd summit, north of Carrbridge on July 5.
Now, the case against Paul Gillcrist has called at Inverness Sheriff Court.
The 66-year-old, of North Carolina, is charged with driving dangerously and causing the death of the Inverness couple and their grandson.
He is also accused of driving dangerously and causing his wife serious injury.
In addition, Gillcrist is facing another dangerous driving charge said to have occurred elsewhere on the A9 between Carrbridge and Dalwhinnie.
Road was closed for nearly 10 hours
Gillcrist was not present at Inverness Sheriff Court as he is still hospitalised.
He made no plea and was granted bail while the case against him was committed for further examination.
Mr McPherson died at the scene while his wife passed away in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and his grandson died in Raigmore Hospital, Inverness.
Neighbours and friends of the couple paid tribute to the family.
Thick black smoke seen coming from scene
The road remained fully closed for nearly 10 hours while the scene was investigated, with police beginning to guide traffic through just after 9pm.
The other vehicles involved were a black Mercedes C Class and a white Mercedes Sprinter pick-up.
Four fire appliances were at the scene, with three pumping appliances and one heavy rescue appliance in use.
Fire crews used two breathing apparatus, a hose reel jet, and one main jet, with all appliances leaving the scene by 6pm.
Pictures on social media showed clouds of thick black smoke in the air in the hours following the incident.
