Arthur Whyte, 62, was spotted by police overtaking a line of cars at Gollanfield between Inverness and Nairn on December 26, 2013. Whyte, of 5 Contlaw Place, Milltimber, admitted a single charge of speeding at Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday. Fiscal depute Ruaraidh MacAllister told the court that Whyte had come to the attention of police carrying out speed checks in the 60mph area. He said police observed Whyte pull out and overtake a line of six vehicles in a single manoeuvre, hitting 100mph in the process. Defence agent John MacColl said: “Having spoken to my client my understanding is that he was in excess of the speed limit for a very short time.” Sheriff David Hall fined Whyte £500 and endorsed his licence with five penalty points. He said: “Clearly you should have known better than driving at this speed on that particular road.”
