A “bored” teenager has been caught with almost two days’ worth of “horrifying” sadomasochistic child abuse videos and bestiality.
Oren Bruce was caught with the sickening collection of vile videos when the police received intelligence he had uploaded a video of child sexual abuse to Snapchat.
Officers raided the 18-year-old’s home and seized and examined a black Sony mobile phone which was found to contain more than 1,000 images and videos.
The teen cited “boredom” and a lack of routine as an explanation for his twisted collection.
‘Adults engaged in bestiality with dogs and a horse’
Fiscal depute Carol Gammie told Aberdeen Sheriff Court the phone contained 481 videos and 23 images deemed category A, the most serious kind.
It also contained 210 videos and 60 images deemed category B, and 391 videos and 179 images in category C.
The creation dates of the files were between August 16 2021 and September 2.
Ms Gammie said: “The cumulative run-time of the child abuse videos was 43 hours and 15 minutes.
“The material variously showed bestiality, sadomasochistic sexual activity, sexual activity with adults and other children and sexualised posing.”
‘It’s difficult not to be fairly horrified’
“Extreme” pornography found included 30 videos, lasting almost half an hour, and three pictures of “adults engaged in bestiality with dogs and a horse”.
A further chatlog was also discovered on the phone, showing Bruce had shared 21 videos containing child sexual abuse with another user on the app Telegram.
Bruce, of Mastrick Road, Aberdeen, pled guilty to taking, permitting to be taken or making indecent images or pseudo-images of children as well as distributing or showing such images.
He also admitted possession of extreme pornography.
Defence agent Michael Horsman said: “At the time of the offence he wasn’t receiving any support.
“He was unemployed having left school but not started work.
“He cited boredom and a lack of routine as an explanation.”
‘Just stop it’
The solicitor explained that, since the offence, Bruce had begun employment as a general labourer at sites around Aberdeen.
Sheriff Morag McLaughlin said: “It’s difficult not to be fairly horrified by the sheer extent of your involvement in this type of offending, at such a young age too.
“The run time of these videos is shocking to me as it will be to others.”
Sheriff McLaughlin said custody was “right at the top” of her mind but opted to impose a community sentence due to factors including Bruce’s age and potential for programme work to rehabilitate him.
She added: “Just stop it.”
The sheriff imposed a three-year supervision order, 200 hours of unpaid work and ordered him to complete the Moving Forward, Making Changes programme.
She also imposed conduct requirements for him to inform police of any device he owns capable of accessing the internet and allow it to be inspected, and to not delete or hide his browsing history, messages, calls or emails.
Bruce was also made subject to the notification requirements of the Sexual Offences Act for three years.
