A man has been jailed after kicking his ex-partner in the head when she asked him to come and collect his pet cat.
Craig Munro left his former partner with a concussion, a “burst” nose and other cuts and bruises after raining kicks on her head and stamping on her body.
The vicious assault came after the woman had sent a text asking him to come and collect his pet cat.
Munro, 41, did attend, but burst into the property in Aberdeen and immediately became violent.
Fiscal depute Kiril Bonavino told Aberdeen Sheriff Court the pair had been in a relationship but separated in 2018.
‘Background of substance misuse’
He said: “On March 29 2021 at about 3.30pm, the witness sent a text to the accused asking him to pick up his cat from the locus as he had left it there.”
Munro did not reply but, half an hour later, as his ex and a friend were getting ready to go out, he “burst through the front door without knocking”.
The court heard Munro then kicked his ex-partner repeatedly to the head and also stamped on her body.
She was left with a concussion, a burst nose and various cuts and bruises.
‘He was a very unwell man’
In a separate incident, on February 21 this year, Munro sent repeated and unwanted text messages and phone calls to his ex, despite her warning him to stop or she would call the police.
Munro, of Alexander Drive, Aberdeen, pled guilty to assault to injury, stalking, and two breaches of bail orders.
Defence agent Ian Woodward-Nutt said his client had a “significant” record and appreciated the matter was “extremely serious”.
He went on: “He is a man who has struggled against a background of substance misuse and very poor mental health.
“Over the period of months when these offences were committed, he was a very unwell man.
“When he’d well and stable and his drug use is under control he stays out of trouble.”
The solicitor said Munro had previously struggled to stay drug-free while in prison as the facility was “awash with drugs”.
Sheriff Lesley Johnston jailed Munro for 12 months and imposed a three-year non-harassment order.
