A woman attacked a sleeping homeless man before mugging another member of the public while claiming to be a police officer.
Jodie Gray, 43, appeared in the dock at Aberdeen Sheriff Court and admitted assaulting the man as he slept in a doorway on Union Street by kicking him repeatedly to the body.
Soon after, Gray, along with a co-accused, chased down another man and pretended to be a police officer before she mugged him of £60.
Gray, who has a significant number of previous convictions, was jailed for her part in both assaults.
Woman was seen kicking homeless man
Fiscal depute Carol Gammie told the court that on the evening of April 17 this year a homeless man was sleeping in the doorway of The Esslemont Restaurant on Union Street in Aberdeen when he was awoken by Gray shouting at him.
“She then, entirely unprovoked, began kicking him repeatedly to the body,” Ms Gammie said.
“A passing bus driver saw the complainer being assaulted by the accused along with another female.
“The accused was seen kicking him for around one to two minutes.
“The complainer had his arms up as he tried to defend himself as he was being kicked to the mid to upper body.”
Ms Gammie added that the bus driver stayed at the location to ensure that the attack was captured on the bus CCTV system.
The bus driver then saw Gray walk towards the Adelphi area where she and her co-accused chased down another man and demanded money.
He was grabbed by Gray – who shouted that she was with “Grampian Police” – and dragged him to the ground before being repeatedly punched in the face.
The two women rifled through his pockets and repeatedly kicked him to the body.
“He handed over £10 and the women left the area,” Ms Gammie said.
“The complainer went to a friend’s house nearby and contacted the police. He then checked his pockets and discovered that £60 was missing, along with his cigarettes.”
The court heard that the man suffered a black eye, abrasions to his face and cuts to his right hand as a result of the attack.
Gray pleaded guilty to one charge of assault and an additional charge of assault and robbery.
‘She doesn’t really remember what happened’
Defence agent Alex Burn told the court that his client and her co-accused had been “drinking that day” and that she had a “significant background” of previous offences.
He added: “Unfortunately, she has an addictive personality and has substituted drugs for alcohol.
“Her position is that she accepts that she acted art and part in what happened and was involved by she doesn’t really remember what happened.”
Sheriff Morag McLaughlin sentenced Gray to 21 months in prison backdated to April 19 this year.
