An Aberdeen man has had his prison sentence extended after he attacked two police officers and called them “pigs” at Nox nightclub.
Binghii Joseph, 24, had to be removed from the nightspot by police after he became “extremely agitated and irate”, Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard.
He got into a scuffle because he thought someone was stealing his coat.
As officers took Joseph to the police van he kicked out and spat at them before calling them offensive names.
Joseph is currently serving a prison sentence for assault and robbery with a knife.
Accused got into dispute over jacket
Fiscal depute Ruaraidh McAlister told the court that on May 2 this year police officers were on mobile patrol in Aberdeen city centre when the manager of Nox nightclub flagged them down asking for their assistance.
“He advised them that there was an ongoing situation with two males,” he said.
“The accused was one of those involved and when the officers arrived he was seen to be extremely agitated and irate.
“The constables made several attempts to calm the situation and advised the accused to exit the locus and speak with them outside.
“Upon leaving the ticket area within the premises the accused observed a member of the door staff with a jacket which he falsely believed to be his – despite earlier repeated conversation regarding the jacket belonging to another person.
“At this time the accused became aggressive and tried to force his way back into the ticket office, past the constable who was standing in the doorway.
“He then had to be restrained and was removed from the locus by the police officers.”
As the officer attempted to get Joseph into the rear cage of a police van he kicked one to the lower leg before spitting at another, narrowly missing him.
Joseph was then placed in leg restraints.
However, while being processed at Kittybrewster Police Station, Joseph then subjected police officers to a torrent of abuse, calling them “spastics”, “paedos” and “pig b******s”.
He pleaded guilty to two charges of assault and one charge of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner while using offensive and derogatory language.
‘He has made a mountain out of a molehill’
Defence agent Graham Morrison stated that his client was currently serving an 18-month prison sentence.
He told the court: “As far as the incident itself is concerned he has no recollection of it – other than the issue with the jacket.
“The jacket was his and he was going back in to get it.
“He has made a mountain out of a molehill and he has got himself in this situation that we’re in.”
Sheriff Morag McLaughlin sentenced Joseph, whose address was given as HMP Grampian, to 11 months in prison.
