A teenager slashed his brother across the head with a knife during a row over unhealthy eating habits.
Tyler Grant permanently disfigured his elder sibling with the blade at their home in Alness last November.
Inverness Sheriff Court was told how Grant, 19, turned violent after his mum returned home with a number of cakes.
Fiscal depute Pauline Gair that an argument broke out on November 4 “over unhealthy eating habits relating to cakes”.
“Grant confronted his mother about the cakes and his brother told him to stop disrespecting his mother,” she said.
“When he wouldn’t stop, his brother stood up and confronted him.”
Still ‘strong animosity’ towards brother
She added that Grant then went into the kitchen and took a knife.
The prosecutor said: “His brother got him in a choke hold, but Grant was swishing the knife above his head and his brother sustained an injury.”
When police and ambulance arrived Grant told officers he “hadn’t intended that to happen”.
Grant’s brother suffered a 6cm laceration to the front of his scalp and has made it known he still feels “strong animosity” towards him, the court was told.
Grant pleaded guilty to struggling with his brother while in possession of a knife and striking him on the head with it to his injury and permanent disfigurement.
Defence advocate Neil Wilson reserved his comments until after a background report has been compiled.
Grant, of Teaninich Paddock, Alness, will return for sentencing on September 20.
