A Glasgow financial worker has been banned from the roads after he crashed and flipped his car while driving more than four times the drink-drive limit in Aberdeen.
David Young’s silver Volkwagen Polo collided with two vehicles on Ashley Road and ended up on its roof.
When a nearby member of the public heard the smash and came to help Young’s aid he noticed that his speech was slurred and was unsteady on his feet.
A blood test later showed that Young, 29, was more than four times the drink-drive limit.
Sheriff Eric Brown told Young he should be “thankful” the crash wasn’t more serious.
Blood test showed accused was more than four times limit
Fiscal depute Jennifer Pritchard told the court that the crash happened at around 1am on July 25 last year.
“Three witnesses who resided nearby heard the collision and exited their properties to see the accused’s vehicle on its roof,” she said.
“As one witness helped the accused from his motor vehicle and noticed that his speech was slurred and that he was unsteady on his feet.
“Police attended in response and the accused identified himself as the driver of the vehicle.
“A roadside breath test was carried out, which provided a positive result.”
Young was then taken to Kittybrewster Police Station where a blood test showed he had a level of 229 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 50mg.
Young pleaded guilty to drink-driving.
Driving drunk was ‘just a foolish decision’
Defence agent Neil McRobert told the court that Young had driven to a friend’s house in Aberdeen city centre where he had consumed alcohol.
“He for some reason in the early hours of the morning decided to drive home,” Mr McRobert said.
“I’ve asked him who he chose to do that and he has no answer – it was just a foolish decision.”
Sheriff Eric Brown told Young: “You should be thankful that this incident only involved yourself or it could have been far more serious.
“It is nonetheless a high reading and that will be reflected in the disposal.”
Sheriff Eric Brown banned Young, of West George Street, Glasgow, from driving for 12 months and fined him £840.
