Did you know that the Aberdeen communities in Mastrick, Stockethill and Hilton have their very own specialist police unit, dedicated to tackling issues raised by local residents?
The LOIP Team, as they are fondly known, were formed under the Local Outcomes Improvement Plan (or LOIP for short), a collective initiative with a vision to create a community where everyone can prosper.
The team based at Mastrick Police Office, consisting of a sergeant and three constables, is dedicated to improving the safety and well-being of residents within our local community.
At the LOIP Team, we enjoy a very productive working relationship with our community planning partners, this has allowed us to explore innovative and effective approaches to preventing crime and addressing local issues.
We work closely with schools, social work, Aberdeen City Council, local MSPs and volunteer groups.
Often our work is guided by our partners as residents in the community may approach them first, but a collective response is required to address the issue.
Targeting prolific offenders
We enjoy getting out and about in our community on foot, building relationships with local businesses and engaging with local youths and recently our efforts have been focused on tackling anti-social behaviour.
Our patrols in problem areas and the targeting of prolific offenders has made a positive impact and we encourage local residents to call us when instances of anti-social behaviour occur.
We have also received a number of complaints from local residents regarding speeding vehicles in Hilton Drive, Cornhill Terrace and Ash-hill Road and Drive.
In response, our constables commenced a series of speed check patrols in the area using a laser speed gun to detect the speed of motorists.
Offenders have been stopped and through education, or where necessary enforcement, drivers were been reminded of the dangers of speeding.
Officers will now liaise with Aberdeen City Council to seek traffic calming measures where required and engage the North Safety Camera Unit to deploy mobile speed cameras on problem roads.
We need your help
If you know of an area in Mastrick, Stockethill or Hilton that has similar issues with speeding drivers get in touch and let us know.
We are also focused on combating drug crime in the community.
I am aware of the untold misery drugs cause to individuals, families and communities as a whole.
We take a strong targeted stance on those involved in drug-related activities, but it is only with your help we will be able to build a full picture of those individuals involved, the areas they operate and times they are active.
I know there can be worries when reporting crimes or concerns to the police, but the more information we know about situations, the more we can do to address these issues and there are a number of ways to let us know what’s happening
If you have any information about drug-related criminality, such as people involved, areas affected, descriptions, a car registration or a time or place they are active, please let us know.
We can be contacted through 101 or through a “contact us” form on the Police Scotland website.
You can also report information anonymously and in confidence to the charitable organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. It will pass the information you provide to us and won’t disclose your identify or contact details to police.
In addition, Fearless is a dedicated young persons’ charity where, through its website, you can get and give information about crime 100% anonymously.
