Hundreds of mourners have turned up to a vigil in memory of murdered Aberdeen mum Jill Barclay.
Between 300 and 400 people huddled together, many of them in tears, and consoled each other as they paid their respects in the wake of the 47-year-old’s death.
The former Hazlehead Academy pupil was allegedly attacked as she walked home from a night out with a friend and firefighters later found her body ablaze.
They’d been called near to a property opposite the roundabout at Dyce’s Stoneywood Road and Victoria Street around 3.30am on Saturday September 17.
Jill had previously attended the Adam Ant concert at the Music Hall on Aberdeen’s Union Street earlier, before travelling to the Spider’s Web pub on Station Road in Dyce.
At an informal remembrance ceremony on Tuesday evening, a large crowd gathered in silence.
Some lay even more floral tributes along the police cordon where the Petrofac engineer’s body was discovered over the weekend.
A spokesman for her family thanked everyone for attending and told those gathered it “meant a great deal” to Jill’s husband, her six-year-old son, and eight-year-old daughter.
Some people had lit candles and placed them around the dozens of bouquets of flowers.
As darkness fell at the busy roundabout, passing traffic slowed when they saw the glimmers of candlelight.
Man in court
Bennett, whose address was given as Ballingry in Fife, faced charges of murder and attempting to defeat the ends of justice.
He made no plea, was remanded in custody, and will re-appear in court in the next eight days.
Almost 700 people have donated more than £12,500 towards an online appeal to help Jill’s family with funeral costs.
Tributes have flooded social media after news of the woman’s horrific death sent shockwaves through north-east communities over the past few days.
