A violent Aberdeen criminal has been jailed after he carried out a brutal street attack on his former partner and headbutted a nurse.
Mohammed Amir appeared in the dock at Aberdeen Sheriff Court and admitted following his former partner as she walked to the pub before punching her more than five times in the face.
In a separate incident, the 41-year-old headbutted a registered nurse after getting into an argument at a pharmacy.
Amir, who has a number of previous convictions for assault, also kicked a police officer during the incident.
He was jailed for a total of 10 months.
Fiscal depute Tom Proctor told the court that on August 4 this year Amir had been consuming alcohol in his flat with his former partner and a friend.
“At around 9.40pm the complainer and her friend decided to go to a nearby pub,” Mr Proctor said.
“As they left they were followed by the accused who appeared and punched the complainer to the face around five times.
“This caused her to fall to the ground whereby she was further struck to the face by the accused before the friend intervened and pulled the accused away.
“The accused then left and returned to the block of flats.
“The police were contacted and they entered the block of flats where the accused was traced, cautioned and arrested.”
The woman suffered bumps and grazing on her forehead as a result of the attack.
A week later, Amir was at a pharmacy on the grounds of Royal Cornhill Hospital where he got into an argument with a registered nurse who he headbutted to the chin.
Police arrived and as they led him to a police van he kicked out and hit an officer in the chest.
Amir pleaded guilty to three charges of assault.
‘She hit him first but what he did was far, far worse’
Defence agent Alex Burn told the court that Amir had drank “a lot of alcohol” on the night he assaulted his former partner.
He added: “Mr Amir was pushed to the face by the complainer and he retaliated by striking her.
“She hit him first but what he did was far, far worse.”
Mr Burn added that Amir has been made subject to several hospital orders and sufferers from bipolar disorder and that he had “shown regret” for his assault on the nurse and police officer.
Sheriff Lesley Johnston told Amir that he had a “long list of previous convictions and a number of those convictions relate to assaults”.
She added: “You have served some custodial sentences.
“Social work has assessed you as suitable for a community-based disposal and that’s on the basis that previous custodial sentences had done nothing to alter your behaviour or stop you from acting in this way.
“However, I am going to impose a custodial sentence.”
Sheriff Johnston sentenced Amir, of Cornhill Court, Aberdeen, to 10 months in prison.
She also put a non-harassment in place meaning Amir could not approach his former partner for three years.
