An attacker who stabbed a man in the stomach with a steak knife has been warned he faces a prison sentence.
Jordan Rae, 24, knifed the man in Macduff following a row about money, Aberdeen Sheriff Court was told.
Rae was drunk and on his way to buy more alcohol from an off-licence when he encountered his victim.
He later told friends he’d just stabbed the man because “no one speaks to me like s**t”.
‘I’m going to smash him about’
Fiscal depute Dylan Middleton said at around 7pm on June 27 this year Rae was drinking alcohol at a friend’s house when he suddenly got up, walked to the bedroom and began shouting at someone through the window.
He said: “There was an argument about money and, as the argument continued, the accused began to get more agitated as he continued to consume more alcohol.
“The accused returned to the living room and was heard to say words to the effect of ‘I’m going to smash him about’.”
Mr Middleton said Rae then left the property to buy more alcohol.
However, a heated exchange was then heard outside between Rae and the man he’d been arguing with earlier.
Rae lunged toward the man and stabbed him in the stomach then returned to the flat.
When he got back inside Rae stated to his friends “nobody speaks to me like s**t”, then added: “I’ve just stabbed him”.
Rae then wrapped the knife in a tea towel and told the others he was going to dispose of it.
An ambulance took the stab victim to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, where he was found to have a 2cm wound to the left side of his abdomen that required three stitches.
Thankfully the knife missed his vital organs.
Sheriff warns jail is ‘most likely outcome’
The steak knife used by Rae was later found by police stuffed into a green food waste bin nearby.
Rae pleaded guilty to one charge of assault by stabbing a person in the stomach with a knife.
He also admitted to a second charge of having a knife in a public place.
Defence agent Sam Milligan chose to make no mitigation on his client’s behalf at this stage and called for reports into Rae’s background.
Sheriff McLaughlin deferred sentence on Rae, whose address was given as HMP Grampian, until later this month.
However, she warned Rae that a period of imprisonment was “the most likely outcome”.
