An 18-year-old girl who was taken to hospital suffering from a paracetamol overdose and attacked a nurse was warned she could be jailed if she re-offended in the next three months.
Sentence on Leanne Newlands, Eildon Guest House, Old Edinburgh Road, Inverness was deferred for three months until May 7 at Inverness Sheriff Court yesterday after she admitted causing a breach of the peace at Raigmore Hospital and slapping a nurse on the face.
The offences occurred on July 25, 2014 when she was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Fiscal depute Stella Swan said: “She began shouting and swearing at nursing staff and pulled a canula out of her hand, causing blood to flow on to the bedclothes.
“She was moved to a chair, but slapped the nurse who was assisting her.”
Defence lawyer Pauline Chapman said: “She has no recollection of the offences and she regrets having behaved in such a way.”
Sentencing Newlands, Sheriff Margaret Newlands told her: “The court will not tolerate behaviour like this towards nurses who were trying to help you. All options are open to the court if you re-offend.”
