A woman stole her boyfriend’s bank card and withdrew £120 after he was arrested during a romantic hotel getaway.
Kelly Lily had invited her partner to stay with her at the Waterside Inn in Peterhead, but the evening turned sour when police turned up to arrest the man over an unrelated matter.
But 36-year-old saw an opportunity to swipe her partner’s bank card and used it to make two ATM withdrawals totalling more than £100.
When her boyfriend was released from custody and went to pick up his things from the hotel, he was told Lily had taken them.
Fiscal depute Sean Ambrose told Aberdeen Sheriff Court the pair had been in a relationship for around seven months.
Victim left bank card behind when he was arrested
He said: “On July 17, the accused had invited the complainer to stay the night at the Waterside Inn in Peterhead.
“While within the hotel, the complainer was arrested in relation to an unrelated matter.”
The man was taken to Fraserburgh police station but left various items, including his bank card, at the hotel.
Mr Ambrose said: “At 9.30am on July 19, the complainer attended at the Waterside Inn to collect his belongings and was informed his belongings had been collected by the accused.
“The complainer contacted police and advised his bank card had been stolen.”
Investigations found CCTV showed Lily taking the bag from a night porter.
Sentence deferred to call alongside another matter
Inquiries also revealed Lily had made two cash withdrawals from an ATM at the Bank of Scotland on Marischal Street, Peterhead, one of £20 and £100.
Lily was stopped by police in relation to another matter sometime later and found in possession of the bank card.
Lily, of Cairntrodlie, Peterhead, pled guilty to theft of the card and to using it to steal £120.
Sheriff Lesley Johnston deferred sentence until November to call alongside another matter in Peterhead.
Defence agent Stephanie Milligan reserved mitigation until the sentencing hearing.
