Autumn is well and truly here, with darker nights, colder weather and some exciting events on the horizon as we approach the end of the year (don’t worry, I won’t talk about Christmas just yet!)
Halloween is first on the list, with a number of events organised and costumes being purchased for trick-or-treating.
We want everyone to have fun and enjoy the celebrations however it’s important to remember that not everyone wants to take part in Halloween and the thought of guising can leave some people feeling anxious.
Youngsters who are out trick-or-treating should be supervised and please make sure you are considerate towards elderly or vulnerable neighbours.
Officers will be out working in their communities on the night to tackle and reduce anti-social behaviour – if you see officers from the Torry policing team while you’re out and about, please say hello and share your best Halloween jokes with us.
Stay safe
Bonfire Night will take place next on November 5, another opportunity to have fun and make the most of the dark nights.
However, it is absolutely essential that everyone stays safe.
Please visit the Scottish Fire & Rescue Service website for safety information and advice, and try to attend organised events where possible.
For the Torry community, you have a fantastic viewpoint of the fireworks display taking place at Aberdeen Beach from Torry Battery, which I would encourage you to use for everyone’s safety.
I would also like to take this opportunity to mention an exciting development – the return of the newly formed Torry Community Council.
This is something the Torry policing team have been encouraging for some time as we know the benefits such a group can bring to the area, and I am delighted to see it come to fruition.
Once established I have no doubt the community council will be a massive asset to local people, with partners – including Police Scotland – working together to address community issues and drive forward local projects.
Local participation is not only encouraged but is an essential and integral part of a successful community council forum.
Have your voice heard
A member of the Torry policing team will be attending these meetings whenever operationally possible, providing an additional opportunity to speak to a police officer directly to discuss any issues you may have over and above the usual methods.
I look forward to meeting the new community council in the coming weeks and to providing ongoing support to the group.
The opinions and views of the people who live and work in Torry are the ones that count when discussing issues which affect the area, so please take advantage of this fantastic forum to ensure your views are considered and discussed.
Your community is unique so join the conversation and chat to us so we can address your local concerns.
